Issue #14 debuted at Wiscon 32, May 22 - 26, 2008. Wiscon, if you didn't know, is the world's largest feminist science fiction convention. So I thought it only right to have an issue featuring all female contributors that could debut at the convention. The cover is by Lisa Snellings-Clark (see it larger here. First things first. Issue #13 has a cover from Steve Wilson in the style of his My Elves Are Different webcomic. Kind of reminds me of an old Victorian broadsheet, eh? Great fiction and poetry from KJ Bishop, Marly Youmans, Claude Lalumière, Rachel Swirsky, Marie Brennan, Jennifer Rachel Baumer, Corey Brown, Mikal Trimm, Jon Hansen, Philip J. Lees, Damien G. Walter, and Richard Howard's first publication. A nice blend of the ridiculous and the fantastic. We're also adding a new nonfiction column named "Sampling the Aspic." The column will be about food and cooking (something I love), and in addition to some recipes and food writing, will feature a short question-and-answer section. This month, Kage Baker takes our blindfold taste test.

Thom Davidsohn finally convinced me to put a robot on the cover with issue #12, and I'm sure glad he did. Stories from Bruce Holland Rogers, Jay Caselber, Brendan Connell, with poems by Bruce Boston and Megan Messinger, as well as much, much more!

EZRA PINES

"The Sense of Falling" by Ezra Pines; illustrations by Mark Rich; introduction by Hal Duncan.

This is our first chapbook. Readers of the zine should already be familiar with Ezra Pines, particularly his Mr. Brain stories. Ezra is a curmudgeonly sort, and it shows in his writing. He also has an amazing imagination that can literally stun a reader. The chapbook features 10 previously published stories and two brand-new stories: "Antevellum," a response to Hal Duncan's excellent novel, Vellum, and "Of Light and Snow." Includes two stories co-written with Richard Bowes.

"An Alternate History of the 21st Century" by William Shunn; illustrations by Mattias Adolfsson; introduction by Cory Doctorow.

This is our second chapbook. William Shunn has been nominated for the Hugo and Nebula awards. This collection contains two stories previously published in the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, two stories published on Salon.com, and two previously unpublished pieces.
